UCCP’s mission is to prepare and support youth and young adults to become confident, effective leaders. We use media as a tool for student leadership and community building and as a medium to share the voice of youth on issues that concern them. POPPYN aims to alter the landscape of mainstream media by presenting the missing perspectives and contributions of youth.
In addition to hosting the production of a year-round youth-produced news show (POPPYN), UCCP offers youth community engagement programs that involve producing a video project (documentary, narrative or PSA) to address or educate others about a social issue. VOICES is an after school program that runs every T/TH from 4-6:30pm from October to May, with students able to join in Fall or Spring. POWER is a credit-bearing internship for high school juniors and seniors that
runs Wednesdays 1:30-5pm for 18 weeks, with two cycles beginning in October and February. Students must be enrolled in one of UCCP’s partner schools and official school credit policies vary. UCCP hosts a yearly 6-week Summer Academy, offering various opportunities to earn money while addressing community issues and producing media.
