Hello from every one of us at Art Factory! We are here to talk about our closing event for Youth & Rebellion, a multi-media youth led art show produced by US! But, before I say more, let me explain the concept: Youth & Rebellion means rising up against the status quo, struggling through your hardship, fighting against oppression, and being your fierce and fearless self! Our show is just that: Teens explaining the concept of Y&R through our poetry, visual artwork, video, and our actions.
At our opening in February, we had 200 people come to see drawings, paintings, masks, and graffiti by youth from across the city as well as work by special guest artists: GRIMGRIMGRIM, Swoon, Manny Gonzalez, Pear, Diane Gonzalez, NoseGo, Keith Garcia, and the artist formerly know as Borf. We also
screened our new music video, a Project of Youth B.O.M.B. (Building Our Movement Beyond) TV where we showed many perspectives on Youth & Rebellion like coming out the closet, fighting against unfair rules
at school, doing graffiti, and a rebellious yet positive party. At our performance showcase, hip hop artist Koby Murphy as well as talented poets from Youth United for Change & Art Factory. My name is Allister Gonzalez and I was one of the featured performers who shared my work that night. We
appreciated all the love and support from our opening show.
And now to our final request.
With the support of Philly Youth Media Collaborative, we are excited to announce our closing event for Youth & Rebellion! It will be on March 1 at Goldilocks Gallery, 723 Chestnut St, from 6-9PM. At 7PM we will be screening videos and holding a discussion and Q&A about the gallery and the theme of Y&R so put on your thinking caps. We will be providing tokens to ALL teens who come to the discussion; we want to hear your voice. At 8PM we will have an open mic for all to perform. Sign-up will be at the door. We will have free snacks and hoodies & buttons for sale, and we will be previewing our How-To Guide for young artists to set up galleries and events.
So please: come out, peep the art, and show us your support one more time!
Tell your friends!
Love, the young and rebellious.
