A group of West
Philadelphia teens from University City High, Parkway West High, and Belmont Charter are currently working together to produce a video project investigating several themes related to the School District of Philadelphias recent school closings. In addition to describing the school closings process and its impact on students, teachers, and community members, the students must provide at least one recommendation for future education policy. Through a collaboration between Peoples Emergency Center and PhillyCAM and under the guidance of instructor Nathan Karuna, the Teen Technology Network students will produce their
own talk show in just 10 weeks. We hope to instill in these students the importance of creating informative media and distributing that media to as wide an audience as possible. In addition to developing media making skills, students will gain research and preservation experience, exposure to Photoshop, and experience in writing. After completing TTN, students will have the opportunity to apply for future PhillyCAM internships.
