T ech St@rs: New Name, Improved Curriculum Tech St@rs formerly known as Sixth Grade Stars is Peoples Emergency Centers after-school technology program for fifth and sixth grade students. The current session features students from Martha Washington, MLA, and Belmont Charter. Twice a week students engage with the Learning.com software under the direction of instructor Claudia Trani-Melgar. Over
the course of 10 weeks, students will improve their skills in keyboarding, Microsoft Office, internet/email, and basic computer functions.
Through a collaboration with Positive Minds, once a week students participate in community building activities facilitated by Jeannine Cook. In addition to growing in their abilities to relate well to one another Positive Minds focuses on three main principles: peace, love, and respect the students are also gaining an introduction to basic filmmaking during many of their exercises.
Update: On Monday, May 13, eight students graduated from the Tech St@rs program. Each student was
awarded a desktop computer from PEC. Congrats!
